I came down with a head cold/virus which peaked yesterday and I spent Christmas day asleep in bed on my own. It was glorious in a way, cause man, do I love sleeping – and I felt rotten -and it was the right thing to do – but I did miss out on a very nice lunch! Also I had to have my Kris Kringle gift given to me at home, this was a pity as the gift was three very old leather bound poetry books (Tennyson, Blake, and Shelley) and that has just rocked my boat – the person who got me in the draw missed out on seeing me very very happy!
If you don’t know what a Kris Kringle (or Secret Santa I believe for those in the UK) is : everyone pulls out a name, there is a $limit of spend, you buy a gift for that person and it remains anonymous. Unless the person loves the gift and then you can be all like “I GOT YOU THAT”. Or you all buy something and put it in a box and everyone draws out a random gift – lots of rules really. I had three KK’s this year : two I bought a gyroscope from Wunderkammer, one of my favorite shops in the city, and thenb I only had one specific targetted KK to buy. This year I got a 22 year old girl I’d never met, i was, what do 22 year old girls like? When i was 22 I was wearing cloaks out in public and obsessed by star trek…I don’t know what is normal at all for 22 year old girls! I think I got her something good in the end (jewellery).
I have had more Christmas food than one can poke an elf at over the last month anyway what with functions all over the place. Bit sad having a heat in the oven pie for xmas lunch though.
I trawled through my collection of paintings and found a bunch of christmassy ones in there.
I did this one after returning from family lunch a few years ago. Mmmm. Turkey. I do prefer chicken to turkey, though. The meat is nicer.
Last year i did this nativity scene. You have Jesus, Mary, Joseph, and the three kings, also there is the Christmas star (as played by the disco ball) and various livestock. I like this one, I’d forgotten I did it.
Any company of a biggish size tends to throw good office parties – I have had some awesome ones at my current place. Did not get to the big one this year cause I was just back from overseas (I went to bed at 7pm that night. Not so much up for a parteeeee). The goss is often good after one of these! This painting I don’t like so much, i think bits of it are awkward and the colour turned out downright disgusting, which is why I’ve never posted it before. Sometimes you make a colour choice and it just fails. Sometimes my crowd scenes are not so successful, but I still like to do big parties.
So i did a little set of illustrations that some day vaguely I will look for a publisher for called the orphan, about a giant child who fails at life cause he’s too big. This is him sitting on santa’s knee in a shopping centre.
Darn you wordpress, “CENTRE” is the correct Australian spelling, not CENTER (and certainly not Mall, I used to be confused as to what a Mall was when I used to watch Family Ties and Mallory worshipped the Mall). We spell lots of things differently – metre, centre, specialised, jewellery (with two l’s), etc. Lots of different spellings and this stupid spellcheck never wants to accept them. The one I hit all the time on this blog is COLOUR. With a U. I’m sticking by my upbringing and spelling it like that.
COLOUR COLOUR COLOUR.
